Any user who can sign in to the Venzeo™ web interface can correct a report’s address. Only the address text can be corrected. The pin on the map always stays where the phone recorded the report.
When this happens
- The pin of a report from the Venzeo™ mobile app is metres or kilometres away from where the photos were taken.
- The pin is in the right place, but the address shows the wrong street, house number, district or town.
- The report was recorded inside a building, under a roof or in an underground car park, where GPS is weak.
- The phone had just been switched on or had just left a building, and still used an old position far from where the photos were taken.
- The address fields can be edited only when places of interest are turned off or optional in your organisation. When they are required, a report shows the address of its place of interest.
Fix
Check how accurate the pin is
- Open the main menu and, under Reports, choose Map view.
- In the top bar, click Customize Screen and turn on Accuracy circles under markers.
- Zoom in to street level. A large circle under a pin means a weak GPS position.
Correct the address of a report
Step 3 applies only when places of interest are optional in your organisation.
- Open the main menu and, under Reports, choose List view.
- Move the mouse over the report and click Edit. If the button is not visible, click Actions and find it there. The Edit Report pop-up opens.
- Under Address, choose Address manually typed.
- Correct the fields Street, Street number, ZIP, City, Region, District and Country.
- Click Save. You see Successfully saved and the report shows the corrected address.
When places of interest are required, choose the correct place under Place of Interest in step 3 instead, and skip step 4.
Prevent wrong positions on the phone
- In the phone’s settings, turn on location services and allow the Venzeo™ mobile app to use the precise location.
- Turn off battery saving for the Venzeo™ mobile app.
- Before you take photos, step outside or near a window, so the phone can find a fresh GPS position.
- If positions stay wrong, restart the phone.
- For regular work inside buildings, underground or in tunnels, ask your administrator to set up places of interest, so the report gets the exact place instead of a weak GPS position. See Setting up places of interest (POIs).
Why it happens
The phone measures its position with its built-in hardware and its own positioning algorithms. Indoors, under roofs and between tall buildings, the phone gets less information, so the position can be off by tens or hundreds of metres. Venzeo™ then looks up the address for the position in map data, which can name a neighbouring street or the wrong district even when the pin is correct.
